ROYAL COUPLE: King’s Park Academy pupils Alexander Wilson and Rosemary Granger celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The academy in Ashley Road, Bournemouth, staged a huge tea party in its playground to mark the monarch’s special birthday.  Pupils enjoyed tea, games, music and a cake so huge that it had taken a week to make.  Associate Principal, Lauren Dean, said: “It has taken a great deal of organisation by everyone here, but the party has been a truly wonderful celebration.  “The children have dressed up, the teachers have thrown their all behind it, the catering staff have excelled themselves and everyone has had a fantastic time.”

The new Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Eddie Coope, was guest of honour at the party and enjoyed tea and cakes with some of the pupils.  He said: “I’m bowled over by this party. It’s amazing. There are flags as far as you can see and the children have been perfect hosts.”  The Mayor was also joined by academy’s ‘prince and princess ‘ Alexander Wilson and Rosemary Granger.

While the school’s chef David Olsen showed off the huge, crown-shaped cake, which had taken him and his catering team a whole week to create.
