Community Care Council

After visiting a local foodbank, our School Council wanted to do more to support the people in our wider community. As a result, they decided to set up a separate council. They wrote adverts, compiled application forms and interviewed pupils to find suitable members and after all their hard work…. Out KPA Community Care Council was born!

The Community Care Council are available to offer support to people in our wider community and are always coming up with ideas to engage with our community outside of school.

Every month they visit Avon Cliff Care Home, a care home locally to school, where they plan and carry out activities with their residents. They plan a range of activities to take to the home including art and craft activities, board games and puzzles and story times. They have built up lovely relationships with the residents in the home and the children and residents look forward to their regular monthly visits.

The children also find opportunities to donate to our local foodbank and other food charities. They organised and collected the donations from our harvest festival which were donated to those in need.

They also write letters, poems and postcards which are sent out to local, vulnerable people who may find it more difficult to get out of the house and therefore find themselves susceptible to loneliness.

We are always looking for a way to support our community and are hoping in the near future to organise coffee mornings in school for elderly and isolated people living alone to come together for some social interaction with each other and also our children.
